25th Anniversary Vacation
As compared to other UVC and non-UVC resorts, Secrets St. Martin is average. The resort is small compared to those along the Yucatan Peninsula. It is also in need of better management and maintenance. It was very apparent the staff who was there to work hard to ensure you had a nice vacation and those who were just there. Definitely not like the other Secrets and Breathless resorts. Staff: Lisette who did our check-in is very friendly and helpful if needed. Kevins, one of the bellman, also owns a taxi service that he works during off hours at the resort. He is awesome. He took our bags to the room our first day then helped us to move them the next day when we asked if we could have another room on the 2nd or 3rd floor. He also was our taxi driver to and from the Flying Dutchman and twice to Lolo's in Grand Case. He is a hard worker and super friendly!!! Leo, the bartender at the Preferred Club makes a mean Patron margarita!!! Paloma, the hostess with the mostest and Ivan, one of the waiters were our favorites at the buffet. After the first day, Ivan remembered what we drank without asking. Both were always happy and made sure we started our day with laughter and a smile. Rooms: We asked to relocate from our initial swim out room to another for a few reasons: 1) I had asked for a 2nd or 3rd floor room after being emailed by the resort about 3 weeks prior to our trip. 2) The first room smelled very bad of mold. You could see mold growing on the walls and ceiling. You could also see water stains at the bottom 12" of the room and bathroom. 3) The shower was designed in such a way that the water ran out onto the floor. Resort: The tropical flowers around the resort are beautiful. However, much maintenance is needed. The landscaper who mowed the lawn one day accidentally cut the irrigation line that lays on top of the ground near our building. He also knocked over one of the solar lights that sits on top of a post. Water was left to run from the irrigation until later the next day, and the post didn't get put back up until late in the day. These issues were very obvious, especially since there were maintenance men and painters working in that area on those days. A gentleman wearing a blue shirt would walk the grounds in the morning, taking notes. At other resorts, that grounds manager would walk around with workers later letting them know what needed to be fixed. That was not the case here. The painter made an absolute mess in the outside stairwell of our building. The day we moved in that building, there was no paint splatter anywhere but after painting a few days, there was paint everywhere on the steps. The beach was the best to us. The water was calm, clear, and with little current, making it perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Entertainment: There is very little entertainment in comparison to other Secrets Resorts. There are no shows at night, only a musician or two with a singer on certain nights. The best that we saw were the steel drum players. They also had karaoke a few nights. I think adding a show or two in addition to the musicians would be a huge improvement. Food: The food was okay. The breakfast and lunch buffets were the best. Dinner, however was another story. We were not impressed by Portofino. The dinners at Himitsu were better but the service one night was terrible. Because of this, we ended up eating at Lolo's in Grand Case our last 2 nights-fantastic, traditional Caribbean food with generous portions and a beautiful sunset! Overall, the resort is nice, providing you don't have high standards going in. It just needs some TLC and help providing the right direction to the staff.

Average Hotel, Great Property and People.
We booked Secrets for our first trip to St Martin even after recognizing that the negative reviews and social media posts could not all be wrong. We got almost exactly what we expected. We have traveled on vacation throughout the Caribbean, Europe and Africa and were looking for a toes in the sand, quiet get away. The property is beautiful, well maintained and well laid out. The staff are very friendly and engaged, willing to assist and accommodate as much as they are possibly able to. The buffet is very good, lots of choices and fresh fruit and veges. The a la cart restaurants were hit and miss, some very good some not. We did both get food poisoning after having ceviche one night, i was down for a day, my Wife for 12 hours, not fun. The coffee shop is fantastic, fresh pastries, ice cream and any type of caffeinated drink you can think of. The alcohol was good, we are not big drinkers, wine with dinner was nice and the secrets club bar had top shelf liquor. The beach is amazing. The sargassum issue that the Caribbean is suffering through this year is causing challenges but most days it was cleaned up before lunch. The swim out we stayed in had some issues. Water damage painted over not repaired, telephones not charging, touch pad for services not working, toilets backing up... and a few other things that need to be improved if you are going to pay $4K+ a person a week. Our take away is that this hotel is what we though it would be, a 3 star hotel at a 4 star price. We will not be returning, too many other places in the world to explore! Tip - When visiting St Martin take the time to visit Anguilla by boat, some of the best beaches in the world, reminded me of the Seychelles.

Not Worth the Price, Poorly maintained property
This is one of the worst all inclusive resorts I have ever stayed at. The only thing great about this resort was it service staff. All of the Bar & Restaurants staff were outstanding, but that was the only thing that stood out for this resort. It is not a 5 star resort not even a 4 star. The ground and landscape at this resort is not tropical nor is it maintained properly. There was no lush gardens just poorly maintained landscaping. There was disconnected irrigation lines in several locations just showing in the guest common areas and even a electrical line sticking out of the sand in the beach area. The restaurant food was average at best. For what they called steak night, just offered one type of steak which was small and dried out. The Italian night the quality of the food offerings was poor, could not even offer a decent Tiramisu. The third night I ordered the stuffed chicken medallions which was tasteless and dried out. For the price paid as an all inclusive resort it is definitely not worth staying at this resort. The spa was way over priced compared to other locations. The rooms are maintained to a 3 star hotel standard, but the house cleaning staff is outstanding for what they have to work with. Overall it was a very disappointing stay and will not return to this property again. Hyatt has a lot of improvements to make at this property. Special Note: If you have local friends that want to visit with you, forget it, they do not allow you have visitors and want to charge you US$150 even if they are only visiting for a few hours. Will never stay at a Secrets Property again.

Definitely not 5 stars….2 stars in super generous!
The resort was clean, but we had issues with everything else. If you have never been to an all-inclusive, you would find this one fine, but if you have, like us, you would find this sub-par! There is definitely no Elaborate food spread, just a bare-minimum of food. Drinks were plentiful, but again ok. Our personal room- we had no hot water for 3 days! Then once we had hot water, we lost power in our room on and off for 2 days. When we reported the water problem, we were told that they would send someone to “show” us how to use the water. We have traveled abroad A lot, and definitely are capable of operating the water faucets. Then when the power went off, we were asked if we plugged anything else in? Wth? No! I forgot to mention, that the cable in the resort went out several times, we snapped the picture of them not paying the bill. We tried to eat outside of the resort, which defeats the purpose of an all-inclusive. We have stayed at Dreams in the DR, which was super elaborate. This is not it!!! Important to note-this resort is in the French side, nothing is close!! It’s a minimum of $40 taxi ride everywhere (one way)!! Stay on the Dutch side!

Paradise at Secrets St Martin Resort & Spa
The resort is secluded and quiet, if you are looking to relax, rejuvenate and recharge this is the place to stay. The best part of our stay was the staff who is very friendly, accommodating and attentive. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The rooms were perfect and our housekeeping staff was amazing, our room was always clean and ready for us by the time we returned from our day at the pool and beach. You will definitely get a good nights sleep as the bed was like sleeping on clouds. The beach is small but I have to say it was the best beach I have ever been to; water was so clear and the beach was clean. The pool was very well maintained, and that sun is intense so if you are looking for natural shade you will be out of luck however it was not to crowed during our stay so we were able to put a couple of umbrella's up to shade us from the sun, don't forget the sunscreen because you will definitely need it. During the day they have activities that you can participate in by the pool and the bar staff is always there with a smile and a recommendation for a refreshing drink. Now for the food, the breakfast and lunch in the main dining room was my favorite, lots to choose from. You do have 3 to 4 choices for dinner, we tried the Steakhouse and Portofino's which was good and had different menu items to choose from. We also tried the restaurant by the pool and it had basic items, burgers, hotdogs, nacho's however on one of our days they had jerk ribs and those were delicious. We preferred going to the main restaurant for lunch as we had more options and the wait was not as long. The hotel had nightly entertainment located by the lobby bar and that was enjoyable. We did have access to the preferred lounge and stopped by there a few times a day to enjoy a drink and snacks. The staff in the preferred lounge were friendly and provided amazing service. I will say if you are expecting to party at the resort this one is not for you. After about 11PM at night you will not hear a thing, it is so quiet and sometimes sitting on the balcony I felt I was the only one that was there, I am a light sleeper and not once was I woke up by loud guests. I did notice other guests catching cabs in the evening to hit the town and go to the casinos and clubs on the Dutch side of the island which I overheard them saying it was about $35 each way to get to the Dutch side. As previous reviews have stated this is a smaller resort than other Secrets however I really enjoyed my stay and because of the people of the island and the resort I will definitely be back. Thank you Secrets for making another memorable vacation for me.
