Average stay
Pros: - The location of this resort is alright. It is close to the city and is on a hill that you can look out and see the city at night. - You can meet a lot of locals - The food overall is good and the restaurants are beautiful with good food too - Can rent out kayaks and go wander around - Lots of excursions are offered on the resort - The main lobby staff and shuttle people are kind and sociable. Needs were always met. Cons: - There's a lot of stairs since it's on a hill. We were in the lower villas closer to the second little beach and had to walk up 4 flights of stairs just to get to the main building, pool and elevator to go to the main beach. Either that or we had to wait a while and call for a shuttle. - The bars close by around 11 pm and the lights shut off in the main lobby and entertainment area that you're practically forced to go back to your rooms or go to the disco, which is not that big and pretty dead. - There is an all-night mini-restaurant open, but the waiters seem to hate the job and not want to serve anyone. - The beach is a public one and so there isn't that much privacy. I was looking forward to the beach the most, but was pretty disappointed. Overall, this place would be better for families with older children (not so much for small children and elderly) and those who like to adventure out and not just stay on the resort. Rating: 6/10

Samana - Bahia Principe Grand Cayacoa
The views are amazing everywhere, beautiful place. So far our favorite place in Dominican Republic. Food: Buffet was good, lots of variety and each day something new and they had theme nights. A la cartes were terrific. Drinks: Lots and many variety. Best drinks are at the pool bar. Rooms: Cleaned daily, a little dated but typical Bahia Principe rooms. We enjoy them. Entertainment Team: The entertainment team is amazing. I can't stress enough how great their team is. We had so much fun with them. We have older children (19 & 25) and the entertainment team did an excellent job of engagement visitors. DJ at the disco was terrific, always engaging and taking requests for everyone to enjoy the music and dancing. Bingo by the pool is so much fun, don't miss it. Beach: This was just ok. The first weekend we were there was Dominican Labor Day weekend and since it's a public beach, not owned by the hotel, it was very busy with the locals. We don't mind it at all as we enjoy seeing how other cultures around the world have fun. It was just a little crowded. After the weekend, the beach was fairly quiet. Lots of chairs on the beach, don't need to get up early to save any and locals are not permitted to use them so there were lots. Other: We did the walk on the bridge to nowhere. It is quite long and we went on a hot day so if you do, go early morning and bring lots of water. We saw lots of jellyfish, sting-ray and many variety of fish from the bridge. It is worth the walk. We went to the very end, took us about 2 hours but we stopped a lot along the way. Excursion: We did the National Park Catamaran tour which takes you to the mangroves and caves. We enjoyed it as the caves reveal a lot of their history and our tour guide was very thorough and provided lots of history facts. Then we went to Baccardi island, beautiful beautiful beach! Crystal clear blue water and powdery white and. Overall: We loved Samana and the hotel was fantastic. I would give it 4.5/5 and would recommend it. I also recommend upgrading as the upgraded rooms are away from the main area which is busy and loud. We would definitely go back. Samana is so beautiful with the mountains in the back, palms trees everywhere and the ocean on the opposite side.

Anniversary Vacation Samana
Spent our anniversary here for a week. All in all a great vacation because we choose to enjoy our time together on this beautiful island. Reality is the hotel is very dated. Asked 3 times to have the plug in our tub fixed. Never happened. Hotel and grounds kept very clean and the food at the buffet or a la cartes was always good and plenty for even fussy eaters. The wine was very good too for a resort. The drinks are what they are, typical resort booze. Not top shelf. Views gorgeous. Carts available to take you up and down if the walking is too much. Pools all very nice and clean especially the ones down by the Villa's. The beach is small but still awesome. Plenty of chairs and shade if needed. The stray dogs are the sweetest !! Please feed them. The mama cat and her 2 kittens so cute !! Danny at the front desk should sell used cars all he does is chatter. Tried to tell me he upgraded our room !! Umm we got what we paid for plus the view of a palm tree. Really !! Deurius is by far a 5☆ employee. No matter where he was working he was always pleasant with a big smile. Jose at the beach bar would probably break his face if he tried to smile. So miserable !! Its a public beach with lots of locals every day so if this bothers you go elsewhere. At the end of the beach there are a few vendors and a fabulous seafood restaurant run by locals. We had a fabulous lobster lunch. Best excursion is the Safari to Rincon Beach. Unspoiled and stunning!

Excellent week!
Excellent week at the Grand Cayocoa with my husband. The was our first time in DR and loved it; It was a beautiful, clean resort. The food at the buffets and restaurants were great, loved the convenience of the all day small buffet by the lower jacuzzi pool. Lots of steps getting around but we were okay with climbing them every day. Enjoyed Gabriel's hospitality from the main lobby bar.
