Los Cabos Overview

  • ""

The Swiss Army Knife of Destinations: Mexico

Let’s start with the east coast: Cancun’s got an epic party scene. Cozumel is the mecca for diving and snorkeling.

Moving to the west coast, if you’re into adventure, head to Mazatlan to explore historic ruins or hit Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo for a similar vibe, but a bit more upscale.

For those who want to escape into the wilds of nature, Huatulco and Mazanillo are your places to explore. Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos have majestic mountains that kiss their beachy shores along with aahmazing golf courses, breath-stealing resorts and delicious beaches.

But Cabo, situated at the tip of Baja, where the shimmering Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific, not only has a hip party vibe, it also has the iconic Los Arcos, where you can slow down and let the beguiling magic of Mexico wash over you.
  • ""

    Baja Blowout: Cabo’s Party Scene

Think of the hottest nightclub (and we don’t mean temperature) you’ve ever been to, then add some shimmering sand, glistening water and a shot of tequila. That’s Cabo.

The first place you should hang is at Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort and Spa. This chic, minimalist decor, adults-only resort serves up smokin’ hot monthly and nightly themes like Play with a Hot Bunny and Anything Can Happen.

Other sizzling spots to check out are the Passion Club and of course, Cabo Wabo, the joint owned by former Van Halen musician Sammy Hagar. Look for flyaway hair and spandex and you might spot him in the crowd.

  • Party’s Over: Chill Stuff

Not everyone can party like a rock star. And while sunsational beach and water activities abound in Cabo, there’s oceans more to do than just frolic in the sand ‘n surf.

How about teeing off in paradise at champion golf courses designed by Jack Nikklaus and Pete Dye? Schwing (indeed). Foodies, ready your taste buds. The drinkeries and grubberies here make for one heck of an Epicurean Odyssey. For you culture cravers, the art district in San Jose del Cabo is a popular complex for checking out local sculptures, photography, paintings and jewelry. If you want to even more culture and history, explore the towns of Todos Santos and La Paz, but don’t miss Plaza Mijares, San Jose del Cabo’s town square, where you can soak up all there is to know about the Old Mexico architecture.
  • ""

    Set Sail: Winter Whale Watching

Channel your inner Captain Ahab, climb aboard and set out for one of the experiences of a lifetime: whale watching in Los Cabos. Each winter, you can get a rare looksee at the grey whales as they make their journey through the Pacific to Baja California, where they'll search for mates in warmer waters. On a whale watching tour, you’ll see whales playfully swim through the waters, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see a baby being born or a mama and her calf approach the boat. Add this to your itinerary after a relaxing day at your resort.

  • ""

Get Out and About: ATV Riding

Fact: the landscape of Los Cabos is breathtaking. The coast, the mountains and the desert are knock-your-socks-off gorgeous. Couple this truth with a jaunt on a high-speed ATV and you’ve got a thrill a second. You can whiz by all this natural beauty filled with cacti (don’t get too close), palm and pine trees while you inhale the fresh Baja air. Then slow down, ponder your escape from reality and grab some selfies and nature snaps. It’s a rush you won’t want to miss.

  • ""

    Fly High: Canyon Zip Lining

Talk about taking your Cabo vacay to new heights, check this out. You’ll put on a harness, helmet and all other accouterments you’re required to wear, then travel through mountains and valleys at speeds up to 50 miles an hour on a thin metal wire–300 feet in the air. If your heart is pumping just a little faster reading this, imagine how you’ll feel when you’re actually zipping along above it all. The majestic views of nature are awesome from this vantage point and are incredible and unmatched. After this experience, head to your spa resort and finish your evening with pure relaxation.

    Foodie Dream: Flora Farm

You could spend a whole week in Cabo, perhaps at an all-inclusive resort, and never dine at the same place twice, but the place we’re most excited about is Flora Farm’s and Flora’s Field Kitchen. It’s an off-the-beaten-beach-path mecca for homemade cuisine from farm fresh ingredients. Everything, we mean, everything is fresh. For instance, the bread. Jose, the baker, arrives at 4:00 AM to make Pain L’ancienne baguette, sourdough and focaccia, to name a few. You can enjoy drinks al fresco on a magical patio, an urban-meets-country-structure, that has a killer view of the field surrounding Flora Farms. You can sip on everything from traditional cocktails, wine and beer to a full-range of fruit and vegetable-infused specialty libations. We recommend the heirloom carrot Farmarita, their spin on the traditional Margarita, and the Farm Julep made with fresh watermelon juice. Gourmands, prime your palates because you’re in for serious grub.
  • ""

    Epic Outing: El Arco

Located on the southernmost tip of Baja, this majestic rock formation known as Land’s End is the most famous landmark in Cabo, (aside from Cabo Wabo, for all you party people).

There are numerous boats that will take you out to this iconic, beautifully roughhewn spot - some even offer tequila tastings on the way over. When you arrive, you can explore Lover’s Beach (a Cabo must-see) and then, not surprisingly, Divorce Beach.

If you’re an experienced diver, you’ve hit a gold mine. The seabed offers a spectacle like no other - the waterfalls of sand in the underwater canyon. The stunning coral colonies. The large variety of sparkly, multicolored fish. Other fun things you can do here are snorkel and swim. You might even see some sea lions. Pirates once hid in these craggy rocks, but once you arrive we know you’ll find your treasure.

    Swing By: World-Class Golfing

If you're staying at an all-inclusive resort, make sure it has a golf course. A golfer’s paradise, Cabo, has numerous courses crafted by some of the best designers in the world. Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort boasts a heavenly course situated just steps away from the championship-caliber Puerto Los Cabos golf course. It’s a unique 18-hole experience consisting of nine holes designed by Jack Nicklaus and nine holes designed by Greg Norman – with ocean views that will blow your mind. A few other courses of note are Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol, Quivira Golf Club and Dunes Course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas. When you tee off, you can take in the magnificent mountains, fresh air, and of course, the cocktails that help you hit that hole in one. After a long day of golf, head to your spa resort and end your day in bliss.

    Airport

Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) serves both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It’s a 15 minute drive from San Jose Del Cabo and 45 minutes from Cabo San Lucas. A short drive from the best all-inclusive resorts!
  • ""

    Immigration & Customs

When you land, you’ll see signs for the immigration line. When it’s your turn, you’ll approach the desk and the officer will ask for your passport. He/she may ask you why you’re visiting, how long you will stay and what your plans are.

Regarding customs, your flight attendant will typically give you customs paper work to fill out on the plane. After you’ve been through the immigration desk at the airport and you’ve picked up your luggage from baggage claim, you’ll go to customs, where officers will possibly check your bags.

    Getting Around Los Cabos

Travelers can rent a car to get around Los Cabos. While car rentals are generally more expensive than back home, using this option may actually cost less than taking a taxi.

If you are in the middle of the Tourist Corridor, taxis may be as high as $30 USD one way to either town. It's pretty easy to rent a car, as rental agencies are located at numerous hotels, the airport, and in both downtown areas. If you still prefer to rent a taxi, you can easily find one in Cabo San Lucas. Many taxis around the area are large vans that can hold more than 10 passengers. Prices can vary but are generally around $7 USD a mile, but be sure to agree on the fare before you get in.

The buses are also a very convenient way to get from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo and the beaches and resorts in the Tourist Corridor. Three lines service the Los Cabos area - SuburCabos, InterBaja, and Transportes del Norte buses run every 15 minutes from around 5:30 AM to around 10:00 PM. Fares are generally about $2.50 USD each way from town to town; drivers will change small bills. To get to Tourist Corridor beaches, tell the driver your beach when you board. It's easy to get to and from your spa resort!
