Incredible overall experience - From Montreal

First off I must say, the staff are awesome adding to the overall experience. We asked for an ocean view and had a beautiful view of both the ocean and main pool and bar. The room was beautiful, large, bright and clean, housekeeping and butler service could not have been better. The swim up bar and main pool has daily entertainment which was welcoming and entertaining, always looked forward to our day at the pool ( Foam party was the best) The main bar and lobby served premium drinks while the entertainment we would have paid extra for it was so good, one night a violinist playing the latest hits, next night a saxophonist , icing on the cake. There about 6 restaurants + 2 buffets+ pop up bbq shacks, The Knife steakhouse a bit odd they brought all food at once, steak dinner ok, however next night best burger ever. Italian restaurant Dolce Vita great, on point . Don Pablo, fine dining was just ok, good but far from great. Rodizio, Brazilian meats was ok. Takara, Asian fusion, just wasn't our night, we got up and left as both our main courses of salmon and bitter sweet pork dish was way overcooked. We left and went to the buffet, look, its a buffet lots of food you will find something you like. PS the Jerk Chicken and Oxtail is always there and delicious. There is a small beach at the luxury hotel, take the shuttle to the main Grand hotel, it is an oasis, just beautiful with a boat anchored 20 yards out selling Lobster and Shrimp dinners magnificent. Our outing was the party boat and Dunn's River Falls which is an all day excursion but well worth it. Did I say staff were awesome, cant say it enough. The whole week just lived in the moment, didn,t worry about the kids, work, the house. Want to go back and bring friends and family to experience the same great time we has. Sorry, it was less that spectacular for others.

    Horrible experience. Do not recommend.

This is a bottom-level luxury resort. We traveled with a group of 16. 6 of us on the luxury property and 10 on the grand property. Let me preface this by saying we are 26-year-olds, not expecting a high level of much for a budget-friendly place but we had an awful time compared to our other trips to all-inclusive. It's overly complicated to make any type of dinner reservation and guest services treat you as an annoyance when you ask for help. We were told you could make dinner reservations on the grand side if you stay on the luxury this is NOT true. "All restaurants are completely booked" we stayed for 8 nights and had options of 3 restaurants or the buffet. Picasso and Takara were okay but the rodizio was a sub-par buffet with subpar meats served on the side. We were highly disappointed with the quality of the food overall. The bars themselves have an awful smell. we tried to sit at the luxury lobby bar before dinner and had to relocate the smell was so bad. When we arrived our safe wouldn't work and it took over 2 hours for someone to come to look at it. We paid for a sea-view room and the "sea-view" was of palm trees and the walkway to the pool. Guest were blasting music at 7:30 am off their balconies, and blasting music from personal speakers on the beach as well. the resort utilizes 'towel cards' so you have to keep track all day of the same towel and there's only one towel hut if you need to exchange. The entertainment is over by 10 usually and there's nothing to do except go to the club at 11 pm which isn't exactly the best. There were bugs everywhere, and multiple people from our group ended up with bug bites. Multiple people from our group also ended up getting sick. Not pertaining to the luxury side but on the grand members from our group had cockroaches in their room. the door handle wouldn't lock and their room was open for hours without their knowledge. In one of the rooms the shower didn't work, and the power went out in another room. They have old carpets in outdoor hallways? It's the strangest thing I've seen at a resort. The only saving grace was the beach was beautiful I would not recommend this resort to anyone. Spend a little more money to go somewhere else.

Good but not great -Luxury side

Overall the resort was good and had a good time. Negatives: from the rooms you can hear almost everything/everyone in the hallways and the entertainment outside, the beach on the luxury side is very small but more quiet, the quality is good but I wish there were more casual options (all the food options are sit down and require reservations which book up very fast), the pool was very clean and the highlight of the resort but it closes early at 6pm, other than the rooms the AC is poor in the resort. Positives- great pool, staff very friendly, drinks are yummy, clean rooms (just slightly outdated), we had all inclusive from the luxury side so you get access to the entire resort, lots of shops, always entertainment/stuff to do. Overall a 7/10!

    Not a luxury resort

We never write reviews unless our experience is either exceptional or extremely horrible. This review is for both. Our initial reaction and experience was horrible, then it got better as time passed. We’re rating our entire experience hoping to inform others. We always read reviews to gauge what to expect and we feel we should also leave reviews to help others make informed decision. We are avid travelers that have done international trips and we enjoy a quality experience that includes delicious food, beautiful accommodations and helpful service. The Room/Accommodations: Upon arrival to the resort, we were offered a cold washcloth as we walked into the lobby. We checked in for our 7 night stay and noticed others were offered rum punch at the front desk and we were not. We were assigned to a room in building 24, which we later realized during our stay had not been renovated. As we were escorted down the hallway to our room, we noticed very dirty, old and mildew infested carpet. Immediately, we were on guard. As soon as we entered the room we noted the room was not renovated. The room was dark, the furniture was dark and the floor was old ceramic flooring with heavily stained grout. The shower didn't work properly and our view of the pool was obstructed by a couple of palm trees! (Room 24205). We were thinking "we have to spend 7 days in this?!?" We went back to the front desk and asked for another room. The woman at the front desk informed us there was nothing she could do. We left and went to dinner later at one of the a la cart restaurants, Mikado. We sat there trying to make the best of the situation. As we walked around the property, we noticed a hallway in another building with marble flooring and decided to investigate as housekeeping was cleaning a room. We went back to the front desk and talked to another person who appeared to have more authority and more mature. We respectfully asked to be moved even if we could change rooms a few days later. He found us a room in building 26 for 2 days later. It was the best decision. The room in building 26 we were assigned to was a beautiful and bright room. The floor was a beautiful white marble and we had a balcony with ocean and pool view. The furniture was white and appeared newer. There was an extra door which separated the toilet from the rest of the bathroom, which we did not have in our old room. The shower was working and overall bathroom was large with a separate jacuzzi tub and shower and double sinks. Still a bit dated, but by far better than our 1st room. The Grounds and The Beach: As for the grounds of the property, they are absolutely beautiful and they were kept very clean. The pool area was great. The main pool had a swim-up bar which was very lively with music, games and pool activities. If you preferred a quieter pool setting, there was another pool further away you could sit. The pool opened at 8:00am and we noticed that guests were out as early as 6:30am reserving chairs with their personal items and towels. We learned this the second day that we needed to be out early, despite there being a “rule” that holding chairs was not allowed. Luckily our second day we grabbed a cabana, which we really enjoyed. We did not enjoy the beach because we could not walk along with our feet in the water. The portion of the beach to enter into the water is very small. The sand area you can walk along to the Grand side is not directly blended with the ocean. Because of this, we utilized the pool the majority of the time. We would’ve preferred a larger beach. The Food: There are 6 restaurant options that are available to reserve on the Bahia website. The system is near impossible to reserve anything. It kept suggesting the restaurants had no availability. Because we were so persistent, we were able to make early reservations after spending ample time speaking with a hotel rep. We were traveling with another couple and it was impossible to make reservations together for the 4 of us. When we arrived at our reservations, we asked for the 4 of us to be accommodated which worked out. We noticed the restaurants were not full at all and the food was awful. We barely ate most nights. We went to the buffet at Jazmin our last night which was average, however much better than any of the a la carte restaurants. Save yourself the trouble and go the buffet route. The Service: The service was inconsistent. We experienced some staff that were pleasant, such as the towel service guy and the bartenders by the pool. We felt the waiters and waitresses in the restaurants were dismissive as if we were an inconvenience. The concierge woman that helps with reservations for restaurants was not accommodating to the level indicative of a 5 star resort. Once we denied several attempts by hotel staff to sit through a time share presentation, we got rude stares whenever we walked past them. The front desk staff did not offer to further accommodate us after we expressed much dissatisfaction of our room after check in and didn’t seem to care. Only after 3 attempts of insisting to check for availability for the next day or two did they find a better room for us. We asked for fresh washcloths several times and we were not accommodated. One day we had to take a shower using our hands because they did not replenish our washcloths. The resort is large and we didn’t have a map to help us around. We had to keep asking for directions to find the restaurants. We also got stuck in the elevator briefly (which was terrifying) and later found out that it wasn’t working. We were informed by a staff person that 3 elevators were down, but there were no signs warning guests. We heard from another guest the previous day that he was stuck on the elevator for 30 minutes. I got the impression that this was a regular occurrence. For a resort that claims to be 5 star, the elevators should not seem sketchy. Overall because of inconsistencies, the service was subpar. Entertainment: Entertainment was plentiful with a calendar of events in the lobby for every night. I’d recommend taking a snapshot of this so you can glance at the activities and see where you’re interested. I would also recommend taking the party boat excursion off of the resort to Sharkies restaurant. Takeaways: Overall, this is an average resort and does not uphold to the luxury name due to inconsistencies in service, rooms and unappealing food. Their self-proclaimed 5 star rating is deceiving. Should you decide to stay at this resort, we recommend you request a room in building 25, 26 or 27. Beware of buildings 23 or 24. They do not appear “luxury”. Eat breakfast at the Jazmine restaurant buffet, have lunch at the pool side grill, bring plenty of cash for tipping, eat dinner at the buffet in the Jazmine restaurant, or better yet find a local person to take you off to an authentic restaurant (Sharkies was delicious). The liquor served on the resort are not familiar brands and most of the drinks are very sweet. If you prefer different it’s a good idea to purchase your favorite liquor at the duty free at the airport. This resort needs needs some major changes to be considered luxury. Overall Rating went from 1* to 3* - because of the room change, nice pool area and grounds and a few sprinkles of really nice staff.
