6 Reasons Why Teachers Need a Beach Vacay ASAP

September 28, 2020 2 Comments

Teachers rarely have time for themselves during the school year – even during the summer! They are real life superheroes who go above and beyond for our growing generations. However, not enough teachers are given the time or take the time to give themselves some much needed R&R.

It’s even harder now to make that a reality. With COVID-19 causing all of us to make changes to our daily lives, teachers are turning to extraordinary measures to ensure students are receiving the education they need. Whether that’s being accomplished through online methods or in-person – or maybe a combination of both – teachers have never been more maxed out than they are right now.

It’s time for a vacation. But, not just anywhere…teachers need a beach vacation. They need to jet away to a place where their worries can fall to the wayside; where they can kick back, relax and get lost in a good book. Now more than ever, it’s time to retreat to the beach. Here are 6 reasons why.

1. No shoes, no lesson plans, no problems

When you’re at the beach, your only worry should be whether or not you’ve applied enough sunscreen. Leave the school work at home and allow yourself to completely relax and enjoy time spent outside of the classroom! Harvard Health even suggests that allowing yourself to completely unplug for even a short amount of time will significantly help reduce stress. Let your co-workers know you’re out of office, and set your email status to away. They’ll understand. Everyone needs a break!

2. Spend quality time with friends and family

Let’s face it, it’s hard to plan family dinners and days out on the weekend during the school year, especially when you have loads of papers to grade and quizzes to prep. And with the difficulties of online classes plus trying to keep your classroom safe, enjoying time at your favorite places is not always a possibility right now.

A family vacay to a sunny place is just what you need for an escape where you can spend quality time with your loved ones. Beaches across the Caribbean and Mexico are open and ready to help you live your best life! Play games, float in the ocean, build castles in the sand and enjoy all of your meals together – all while knowing that your health and safety are being kept at top of mind.

3. Give your mind a break

Giving your brain some much needed time off from all of the world’s chaos and endless to-do lists is crucial for a healthy work-life balance. When you’re constantly thinking about what you have to do for work and what’s going on with current events, you risk losing creativity or burning out completely. There’s no better place to clear your mind than at the beach! The American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Journal even published a study proving that being surrounded by so much positive blue space, like the ocean and clear skies, boosts creativity.

4. Get much needed sleep

The only reason teachers should be awake at 6 a.m. on vacation is to watch the sunrise. Teachers need sleep, and what better place to do that than with a room next to the ocean where you can hear the waves crashing on the beach, outside your window? Getting that well-deserved beauty sleep also helps to strengthen your immune system.

5. Island time is the best time

There are no class changes or clocks ticking on the beach. Take your time. Relax. Unwind. Take a nap on the beach, in a hammock or in your cozy oceanfront suite. Just enjoy not being on a schedule for once!

6. Return feeling fresh and rejuvenated

There’s no better way to start the school year than feeling totally refreshed, open-minded and re-energized to take on another great year with students – even though this year definitely looks very different from any we’ve ever seen before. Clinical psychologist and host of the Daily Helping Podcast, Dr. Richard Shuster, says that since the color blue is known to evoke a calm and peaceful state of mind, “Staring at the ocean actually changes our brain waves’ frequency and puts us into a mild meditative state.” If the doctor says that staring at the ocean is scientifically beneficial for you, we really shouldn’t argue with that, right?

In honor of all you incredible teachers out there, we’re offering an exclusive, all-inclusive club with you in mind! Couldn’t agree more! Check out my blog series on Mexico’s Hotel Xcaret. I traveled with a group of teachers for Spring break. It was the perfect holiday.
